Terms 1 & 2

Blood and Roses

The year begins a famous battle, re-enacted on the school field. An exciting and bloody start to the terms learning. We continue to journey through the past exploring the lives of monarchs and every day people. Here are some examples of our experiences.

Terms 3 & 4

Above and Beyond

We travel from the ground to the stars exploring the history and science of natural and man-made flight. Take a look at our learning here.

Terms 5 & 6

Into the Forest

We then step 'Into the Forest...' for an journey full of tales and adventure.

 

 

Year 3 Homework – Term 5

 

This term we would like you to select at least one task to do from each column – so at least one numeracy task, at least one literacy task, at least one science task and at least one creative task over the term. Please bring the work in as you complete it at home, but we would like at least four tasks in by Friday 26th May. Please remember that you should be reading daily at home from a range of texts for around 15 mins a day the children are expected to bring their reading record in daily to be checked.

Find out how far it is to travel from your house to different woods/forests in the local area.

How long does it take vegetables to grow? In which months do you plant which vegetables? In which months can you harvest them?

Design your own garden, recording the area and perimeter of each section of your garden.

You have £20 to spend for a meal with your favourite fairy tale character. What would you buy? How much would it cost? Would you have any change? You could visit your local shop, look online, pick up a local menu, or visit a local restaurant.

If you were a fairy tale character what would you be like? What would you wear? What would happen to you? Would you have any special powers? Write a character description.

Write and present a poem about a wood or forest.

Re-tell your favourite fairy tale story with a twist.

Write a play script of a fairy tale that you could perform to the class with some of your friends.

 

Grow vegetables at home. Bring in evidence – e.g. photographs or a daily log of what you see.

Can plants grow in the dark? Carry out an experiment to find out if they can.

Go for a walk in a local wood, forest, park or garden. Can you identify the types of plants/trees/flowers that you see. Take photographs or draw and label what you see.

Can plants grow without any water? Carry out an experiment to find out if they can.

 

 

If you were a fairy tale character what would you be like? What would you wear? What would happen to you? Would you have any special powers? Create an image or model of your character.

Design a fairy tale food, e.g. a fairy dust cup cake or a witch’s stew.

Write out the recipe and draw a picture of the food you have invented. You could try making it at home and take some photos to show us.

Create a collage or piece of art work using materials you find in your garden, a wood, a forest, or on the beach. Please remember not to disturb or harm animals or plants, e.g. a leaf picture, pebble picture.

Write some new words to a song that you know. Your new words should be about either a fairy tale or a wood. Please prepare to perform your new song to the class.
