Governors
We would like to welcome you to the Governors’ section of the school website and thank you for your interest.
Pebsham Primary is an academy as part of The Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT).
TKAT is a multi-academy trust which was established on 1st September 2010. It’s constitution is set out in the Articles of Association and this is shared with individual academies via the Scheme of Delegation. TKAT have, through the Scheme of Delegation, established Local Governing Bodies for each of the Academies.

PEBSHAM PRIMARY ACADEMY
We, the Governors, are a diverse group of people from a range of backgrounds, including education, human resource management, retail work, legal work and finance. We aim to use our skills to support the school so that we attain our vision of a school where every child can shine. We are not paid, but can claim expenses for some activities.
We meet as a Local Governing Body, independent of the TKAT Board of Directors, but accountable to TKAT for everything we do, and our main functions are to set the strategic direction for the Academy and to hold its leadership to account.
We also meet in committees to examine aspects of the school’s work in closer detail.
We visit the school regularly to monitor its progress and we ask challenging questions to ensure that the school is meeting the needs of all the children and providing an education that will enthuse and inspire them. We regularly speak to children, parents and staff to find out their views.
There are three categories of Governor: ‘Appointed Governors’ are approved and appointed by TKAT; Parent Governors are elected by parents of pupils in the school; and Staff Governors are chosen by the school staff (both teaching and non-teaching staff). We also have a Clerk who is appointed by TKAT to co-ordinate and to keep records of our work, and to advise us on legal matters.
Being a school governor is a rewarding and fulfilling role; helping to provide a suitable, safe, and exciting environment for learning is critical to giving every child the chance they deserve.

Our Governors:
OUR CHAIR:
Wendy Morgan - I joined Pebsham’s Governing Body in January 2013. I was formerly an Assistant Headteacher in a large high school in Staffordshire. I was also the Chair of Governors at a small primary school quite similar to Pebsham. Since becoming Chair at Pebsham, I have visited the school regularly and meet with Mrs Martin once a week to ensure that I understand the school fully. Our role as Governors is to support the school by ensuring that it is as effective as possible. We monitor the standards achieved and the value for money on a regular basis and challenge the Leadership Team to do even better. We are here to ensure that children receive the best possible education and appreciate hearing the views of staff, parents and children. Please ask for my contact details at the school office if you would like to speak to me at any time.
OUR VICE-CHAIR:
Barbara Clarke - I joined the Governing Body as a Parent Governor in 2011 and became an ordinary Governor and Vice Chair in 2014, when my son left for secondary school. I have over twenty years experience working with children with special educational needs and leading on curriculum and assessment. I am the SEN Link Governor and my role includes ensuring that the school complies with the legal requirements for children with special educational needs and disabilities. I have regular meetings with the Inclusion Manager, to discuss SEND pupils achievements and data, monitor planning, undertake learning walks and monitor marking during 'book looks' as part of my role to advise the Governing Body whether we are carrying out our responsibilities effectively. We look at ways in which teachers and teaching assistants can facilitate learning to enable all pupils at Pebsham Academy to shine.
OUR PARENT GOVERNORS:
Steve Rickard -
Nick Green -
OUR APPOINTED GOVERNORS:
Steve Excell - I have 2 daughters who have now both moved onto secondary school, but spent their entire primary years at Pebsham. My main reason for being a governor was to actively contribute my time, professional skills and parental experience to help the school and the pupils continue to improve and develop. I first joined as a parent governor in 2009 and finished my term in 2012. In 2014 I rejoined as a TKAT appointed governor. I worked many years for a local bank as their 'Senior Local Business Manager' covering the South East area and in 2012 took voluntary redundancy to enable me to spend more time with my daughters, and to change my career direction. I currently am employed by TKAT as their 'Teaching Schools Alliance Administration Officer'.
Ella Roberts - I am the Deputy Director of Learning at TKAT. I was previously the Deputy Headteacher here at Pebsham Primary Academy. I supported the Headteacher in overseeing many aspects of the everyday running of the school and I had a key responsibility for Teaching and Learning across the school. I joined the Governing Body as a staff governor in September 2014. I have worked in a variety of Primary Schools and have also been involved in education consultancy across East Sussex supporting schools with mathematics teaching and assessment.
Councillor Doug Oliver - I was born and educated in Bexhill before moving away to pursue my career in Banking but maintained links with Bexhill as my parents resided in the town. Retiring after almost 40 years in Private Client banking I returned in 2010 to nurse my elderly father. On my returned I became actively involved in local community awareness and became a Rother District Councillor in 2014. although I have no education background I do feel my commercial experience and role as a councillor gives me a broad base to assist the school to move forward to attain its aspirations as I am very keen to share the planned achievements. I am married with two adult children and my interests are local community affairs/sports/reading/history
OUR STAFF GOVERNORS
Janice Willis - I have recently been appointed as a staff Governor at Pebsham, where I have worked for 12 years. My role as a Teaching Assistant /Hilta entails providing classroom support in Year 4 and also planning and covering for teachers’ PPA time across Key Stage 1 and 2. Over the past 20 years I have worked in various educational settings, a pre-school, special school and a mainstream primary school whilst completing various qualifications associated with my roles.
